A talented solo artist and lead singer of The Poems, whose line-up includes some genuine rock royalty.
Having started out singing Irish ballads, Country & Western and songs from the 60’s & 70’s with her family Maria then spent her Saturdays at Music School learning viola, recorder, flute, singing and music theory. She started song-writing at the age of 15. Maria is also trained to a high level with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and has studied Musical Theatre to HND level.
Maria has been a member of different bands, including a 7 piece Afrobeat/ Jazz style band whilst living in Philadelphia.
Solo performances have included pubs, restaurants, coffee shops and care homes as well as The Royal Concert Hall, ABC 1 and 2, King Tuts, Oran Mor and the Trinity College Dublin.
Headline events include collaborations with artists (as seen on Channel 4), music for local filmmakers, support act for Justin Currie at Celtic Connections and The Magic Numbers at the Concert Hall in Perth and most recently a BBC Radio Live Session with The Poems.
Maria currently hosts an open mic night in Glasgow every Monday at the Bier Halle, Great Western Road. Maria also teaches Learn to Play Guitar or if you would prefer to learn guitar one-to-one please contact Maria directly.
